Wrinkle relaxing injections:

These are used to smooth facial expression lines formed by moving the underling muscles. The commonly affected areas we treat are the forehead (frown lines) and the eyes (laughter lines or crow’s feet), but we can also treat other areas of the face. We can soften neck lines and upper lip lines, correct a dimpled chin, lift the eyebrows, lift the corners of the mouth and reduce a gummy smile. The injections contain a protein derivative of botulinum toxin which when injected into the muscle blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscle preventing it from moving, relaxing the overlying skin and smoothing the wrinkles.

Treatment involves a number of small injections which are relatively comfortable and take approximately fifteen minutes to carry out. The results can be seen after approximately 6 days and can last up to six months.

There can be a few side effects of treatment - redness and sometimes bruising at the injection sites. This usually disappears after a few days.

Excessive sweating:

This is also known as hyperhidrosis and can be uncomfortable or embarrassing.

We use injections to block the signals from the nerves which stimulate the sweat glands, thus reducing the sweating.

Treatment involves an initial test where the treatment area (often the axilla or armpit) is wiped with iodine and then starch is applied - the more sweaty areas become darker. These darker areas are then injected with the drug to block the signals. The results can take two to three weeks to become noticeable and then may last between six and twelve months.
