Fillers work by physically supporting the skin directly under the line or fold, lifting and softening its appearance. To ensure comfort throughout the procedure the area can be numbed with local anaesthetic.
The
two most common fillers available are:
Collagen – a substance found naturally in the skin
which gives it natural elasticity. A patch test is
required before treatment.
Hyaluronic Acid – a substance found naturally
in the skin, knees and joints. No patch test is
required.
Results are instant and can last from six months
to two years, depending on the area treated and
type of filler used. Common side effects are
redness, swelling, and sometimes bruising for a
few days up to a week after treatment. This can be
camouflaged with make-up.
Some fillers can be reversed and with these you can
be reassured that on the very rare occasion you are
not comfortable with your new appearance we are able
to restore you to your original look.
Dermal fillers can also be used to plump out and revitalise
the skin on the back of the hands, neck and décolletage to
make it appear more youthful and vibrant.
Sculptra® -
Treatment involves a number of small injections which are relatively comfortable and take approximately fifteen minutes
to carry out. The results can be seen in one to two weeks and can last up to six months.
The treatment involves the application of an acid solution to the surface of the skin to remove its upper layers. Common side effects include redness, slight stinging and increased sensitivity to sunlight. These are all temporary and can be concealed with make-up.
There
are three main categories of peel: superficial, medium and deep peels.
Superficial peels
These usually involve glycolic
acid to remove only the outer layers of skin. They are often referred to as lunch-time peels as they have very few side effects. The
benefits can last up to six weeks after each peel but a course of six peels (one every two weeks)is recommended for the optimum results
and are best combined with a specific skin-care routine commenced prior to the peels. Treatment takes around fifteen minutes
and the skin may become red, dry or flaky for a couple of days after treatment. We offer superficial peels from leading brands
including Jan Marini, Mene and Moy and Dermaceutics.
Medium peels
We offer medium depth peels using TCA (trichloracetic acid)
or the ICP system.
Deep peels
The deeper the peel the more dramatic the results but the greater the number of side effects, so you will require some time out of the public eye. We will advise you on each of the available options (including laser options) together with the pros and cons of each treatment.
Glycolic facials
Mild glycolic facials leave the skin soft and bright, not red and flaky. They
are an ideal option or introductory treatment for those patients who are a little apprehensive about a skin peel.
Treatment involves an initial
test where the treatment area (often the axilla or armpit) is wiped with iodine and then starch is applied - the more sweaty
areas become darker. These darker areas are then injected with the drug to block the signals. The results can take two to three
weeks to become noticeable and then may last between six and twelve months.
